Harry Chiu was born in China 67 years ago, but when he was 4, his family moved to Denver, Colorado, to join his grandfather. “Like many immigrant families, we lived a fairly isolated life. College, for me, was an eye opener.” Harry was an overseas exchange student, studying in Switzerland and traveling the country.
His engineering studies hooked him on the technology industry. The wave of software was beginning to grow, and Harry was swept up. He spent a number of years in the tech industry, leading groups of as many as 500, and he worked while he and his wife Nancy, a now retired teacher, watched their family of 3 children and 4 grandchildren grow. “We lived here in the early 80’s…moved back to the mainland for 10 years…and returned to the place we love. One of our twin daughters lives in Hawaii, too.”
Rather than retire, Harry serves as a consultant for Sales Force, offering technical assistance to clients. “The goal in life for me now is to find ways to contribute to the world in meaningful ways and grow in a spiritual way…grow as a person.” When Bub Wo sponsored Harry and he joined The Rotary Club of Honolulu earlier this month, he knew he finally had the time to serve. “I have embraced the opportunity to get involved in the community and share my experiences in various areas of interest.”
