Purpose

The purpose/mission of the Rotary Peacemaker Committee is to develop "Peace through Understanding" throughout Rotary and throughout the world.  We believe that our mission can best be accomplished by instilling peace within ourselves; our families; and our community.

As peacekeepers we are guided by the core values of fairness, justice, compassion, forgiveness and respect for the dignity of others, as well as by the virtues of humility and courage.

The main objective of the Rotary Peacemaker Committee is to conduct an annual Peacemaker Video Contest throughout Hawaii's Schools.

Peacemaker Video Contest - Each year the Peacemaker Committee sponsors a video contest for elementary, middle and high school students based on the idea of creating peace in our world.  Our goal is for students to have fun in applying their creativity to any topic about creating peace such as:  Sports; Road Rage; Bullying; Divorce and Domestic Violence; Racism; Genocide; or any other area where creating peace could make a positive difference in the world.

The videos are 3 to 5 minutes in length. Winners of the contest are awarded Sony Cameras for their school as well as $200 for the 1st place winner in each school division (elementary, middle and high school). There is an additional $100 for an overall honorable mention winner and a Peace Book for every school participating in this category.

Winners participate in an OLELO produced 30-minute television show that is aired on a regular basis following the video competition.

The winning teams are also invited to attend a Rotary Club of Honolulu luncheon where they will receive their cash awards and be recognized for their efforts.

The Rotary Peacemaker Committee works in partnership with Olelo and their Youth Exchange Video Competition.  For more information on the contest, or to learn how you can enter next year's contest please visit www.olelo.org/yxc

Also, we are asking that each District 5000 Club consider the establishment of their own Peacemaker Committee. The Rotary Peacemaker Committee would be happy to assist you in anyway that we can.

We hope that you will join us in promoting the idea of peace through understanding and joining in the fun by becoming a member of your own club’s Peacemaker Committee.
