The future of the Rotary Club of Honolulu is dependent upon our ability to grow and strengthen our membership.  As a Rotarian, one of your primary responsibilities is to help identify and propose new members.
Identifying Potential Members
 Quality potential members will possess the following characteristics:
  • Good and moral character;
  • Good business and professional reputation;
  • Holds (or held) an executive position with discretionary authority in any worthy and recognized business or profession;
  • Is/will be a leader in his/her profession;
  • Is committed to helping our local and international communities.
Once you have identified a friend or colleague who would make a good Rotarian, invite him/her to a meeting or club project. The best way to encourage a prospective member to join is by showing them our Club’s great works!
Sponsoring a New Member
Your job as a sponsor is to keep track of the status of your prospective member's application, answer any questions and encourage him/her to attend meetings and work projects while his/her application is being reviewed. Once the application has been approved and your prospective member has been inducted, your responsibility is to act as a resource and ensure that the member is comfortable, satisfied and engaged.
Membership Application Process
The membership application approval process takes an average of three to four weeks, depending on the prospective member’s schedule and availability.  The process is as follows:
·       Once an application is submitted, it is reviewed by the Classification Chair who applies a classification to the prospective member based on his/her vocation.  On average, this step takes 3-5 days.
·       The application is then reviewed by the Board of Directors.  Approval by the Board can take up to 7 days.
·       The next step is to propose the prospective member to the general membership through the Club newsletter, The Tradewind.  The membership has 7 days to object to the candidate’s membership.
·        Upon approval by the membership, the prospective member completes a brief orientation with one of the Club’s most experienced and knowledgeable members.
·        Once the prospective member has completed an orientation, an induction date will be scheduled for him/her to officially be welcomed into the Club.
