Future of Hawaii Tourism:  Challenges and Opportunities

An open conversation with Mufi Hannemann

The Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority (HTA) Board of Directors elected longtime business executive and political leader Mufi Hannemann to serve as its new chair!

Mufi Hannemann has served the community of Hawai‘i for decades in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. He is the President & CEO of the Hawaiʻi Lodging & Tourism Association, the state’s oldest and largest private sector tourism association with about 700 member organizations, representing more than 50,000 hotel rooms and nearly 40,000 lodging workers. He was elected as Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu in 2004 and 2008. In July 2023, he was appointed by Governor Josh Green to serve on the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority (HTA) Board, and became chair of the board in December 2023. He is also the founder of the Pacific Century Fellows, a leadership program modeled after the White House Fellows program in which he participated and served on the staff of then Vice President George H.W. Bush. He has been appointed to serve six U.S. presidents and two governors of the State of Hawai‘i.
