OUT OF DARKNESS WALK - by Rick Tabor
Saturday morning’s weather was perfect! You could feel the positive energy from each smile, hug and hi-five…
Rotary led the way, on the walk with about 40 walkers.
Ford & an Intern held down the Bobby Benson Center -BBC Table… & we all had a real good time…
If you joined us, Thank You. If you couldn’t make it, we’ll do it again in September 2025!
So, here’s the story:
Once a year, thousands from around America join together to walk through the night to fight suicide. In Hawaii, we walk in the morning. The connections people make last a lifetime, and the funds raised save lives. The walk provides an opportunity for people to connect with their local community and to bring hope to people who have been impacted by suicide.
The Community Walks, held in hundreds of communities across the country, are the core of the Out of the Darkness movement, which began in 2004.
These events give people the courage to open up about their own connections to the cause, and a platform to create a culture that's smarter about mental health awareness and supports. It’s time to walk out of the darkness of stigma into the light of helping to help, asking for help, accepting help without concerns.
Many people’s introduction to AFSP (American Foundation of Suicide Prevention) comes through the Out of the Darkness Walks, taking place in cities nationwide. In our Community, Campus and Walks, those affected by suicide – and those who support them – raise awareness and much-needed funds, strongly sending the message that suicide can be prevented, and that no one is alone.
We did not push for donations today. However, an investment is well used. At least 82 cents of every dollar raised will be used to:
Fund scientific research.
Educate the public about mental health and suicide prevention. Support Mental Health Resources.
Bobby Benson Center joined us today. Thanks Ford!
Here's a 15 second time lapse & here are few pics.
Please enjoy.
