Thank you to everyone who joined the Club Assembly meeting on Tuesday. We actually exceeded our minimum in the room at The Pacific Club, as well as a few people who joined us by Zoom. We were able to conduct both Foundation and Club business, given that we had a healthy quorum. Following the Service Above Self campaign update (thanks to Liz Howard for leading the campaign and Bob Sumpf for reporting on it), we elected Al Linton to be the latest member of the Foundation Board of Trustees. We also voted to adopt an amendment to our Club bylaws establishing a Group/Corporate membership program, thanks to the efforts of the Membership Committee, led this year by Tom Coyne and which will be headed next year by Bridget Townsend. In a very “only in this Club” moment, Bub Wo had puakenikeni flowers delivered by Uber, which Lucci Pinoliad helped us to distribute. We also heard from Tom and Lucci about the Coke & Lawrence fund and launched the campaign to grow its support for our Club operations. Thanks to all who engaged with questions and comments regarding both the Foundation and the Coke & Lawrence fund, as well as to everyone who pledged.
One item that we did not have a chance to address during our Club Assembly for a number of reasons is the Club leadership’s plans for our upcoming Rotary year to be led by President Elect Carolann Biederman. She and I will be spending some quality time together in Taipei next week during the Rotary International convention to continue our preparations for the change of command at the end of the month. This planning will include our approach to dues, the cost of lunches and developing a strategic plan for Club operations and service projects, all of which will feed into our budgets for both areas next year. We will be working with our Executive Committee and Board (including new members Bridget, Gigi Davidson, and Hai Cha Lambert) to make final decisions, which we will be announcing in the next couple of weeks.
Remember that next week we will have three Paul Harris events, and there is still plenty of space for you to sign up. This is a great opportunity to learn about your fellow members’ professional activities, so I encourage everyone to join when you can. Monday, June 8 will be JABSOM Willed Body - Bones & Beetles with Lee LaBrash and her husband Steven. Tuesday, June 9, I will be hosting AI Questions Answered at the University of Hawaii Manoa, and Friday, June 12, one of our newest members, Adam Bogucki will be hosting us at StretchLab for Preventative Care & Wellness. I look forward to seeing several of you at these events.
Bring your items to our lunch meetings on June 16, & 23. Leave them with our Club Admin who is working with our Community Director, Nancy Youngren.
Announcing the RCOH & The Pantry Partnership
The Rotary Club of Honolulu is excited to share a meaningful new service opportunity for our members through our partnership with The Pantry by Feeding Hawaiʻi Together. This initiative gives Rotarians the chance to organize volunteer groups directly from their workplaces and spend a day giving back to our community by helping support Hawaiʻi families experiencing food insecurity. The Pantry is Hawaiʻi’s only year-round e-commerce food pantry, providing free, nutritious food to local households in need.
Participating is simple: gather coworkers or employees from your workplace, have each participant sign up for a volunteer shift, and Rotary will donate $50 per volunteer per shift to The Pantry. This is a wonderful way to combine team building, community service, and philanthropy while strengthening Rotary’s impact across Honolulu. We encourage all members to consider bringing together a workplace team and joining us in this hands-on effort to feed our community and support an outstanding local nonprofit organization.
