"The Future of Astronomy in Hawaii"
Dr. Chun, raised on O'ahu where his upbringing provided him a deep appreciation for the stewardship kuleana that we as a community bear to ensure Hawai'i's natural environment is preserved for future generations.
He has a rich history in our educational system, has been responsible for the restoration and stewardship of several significant cultural sites. Dr. Chun takes his Stewardship to the highest level. “I have seen firsthand the challenges facing Maunakea and UH’s stewardship of the mauna,” says Chun. “My top priority is serving the mountain itself and finding a way where its cultural and historic significance is uplifted by astronomy, not diminished by it.”
His background includes specific interests in leadership, organizational development and strategic planning with a strong emphasis on engaging community. He has served as president of the Hawai'i Island Economic Development Board and is active with several Hawai'i Island and Oahu non-profits.
Parking at the Outrigger is limited to Outrigger Canoe Club members with decals only as of June 10.

Alternate Parking: There is usually ample parking around Kapiolani Park on Kalākaua Avenue at only 25 cents per half hour (coin meters - so bring quarters!) For those who can walk a little further, Paki Avenue on the mauka side of the park has free parking with no time limit.

Christine Camp is president and CEO of Avalon Group, a company she founded 25 years ago. Through a large telescope, see the Moon, planets and various deep sky objects with up to 600x magnification power through special nebula filters. Guests will be able to take photos of the Moon with their smart devices/ phones with assistance by the astronomer. There will be Identification of satellites across the twilight sky, including the International Space Station and the Hubble Space Telescope (if visible that night) as well as a scientific explanation and history of astronomical objects and anything space related.

Incoming President Tom Coyne has been working closely with our current and 2025 Club Treasurer Lucci Pinoliad, as well as with current President Joanna Amberger to finalize our budget for 2025. With membership staying steady at 117 members and with inflation increasing the cost of operating the club, we have little choice but to implement an increase for our membership dues. The chart shows the current dues rate and the new dues rate effective July 1, 2024.
