We had another great series of Restaurant Week lunches this week. On Tuesday we could almost have held an Executive Committee meeting at Dixie Grill and BBQ in Aiea, as I was joined by President Elect Carolann Biederman, Immediate Past President Tom Coyne, Club Administrator Lee LaBrash, District Governor Nominee Rich Proctor, and Technology Guru Cherokee Rice. Then on Wednesday, I had a wonderful time at Moku Kitchen in SALT Kaka‘ako with Lee, Dennis Lind, Judy Lind, Dawn Marie, Nina Thai and Nancy Youngren. Then finally for those on the East side of our island, I had an excellent meal at Kona Brewing in Hawaii Kai with Nina, Mitch D'Olier, Rob Hale, Reese Liggett, Clif Purkiser, Kent Reinker and Bob Sumpf. The food and the fellowship at all three events was fantastic. Thank you to everyone who joined.
As has been mentioned in the most recent Tradewind, we are now two weeks into our annual Service Above Self campaign of giving to our Foundation, which in turn supports all of our various service projects. If you have not already sent in your pledge form, please do consider taking care of that soon. As I mentioned during the last regular meeting, I would very much like to have every member of the Club contribute to the SaS campaign at least a small amount before the end of March. And speaking of service projects, our next opportunity is coming up during the first week of February, when a number of us will be helping to restore the native drylands forest at the Hamakua Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary in Kailua. Mark your calendars now for February 7.
Our next regular lunch meeting will be at the Oahu Country Club, where we will have a lunch buffet and hear from our very own Ananda Ferreira about the history of and her work at the Oʻahu Cemetery. Following the regular meeting, we will also have a meeting of the Membership Committee, so those on that committee should be sure to join us. I look forward to seeing many of you there on Tuesday.

The Maile Hale Endowment Fund
The Maile Hale Endowment Fund was named in remembrance of Past Club President Rob Hale’s daughter Maile, who perished in the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
Through the generous donations of members and friends of The Rotary Club of Honolulu, the permanently restricted Maile Hale Fund ensures a future of service for our club. Donations are made with the specific intention that they increase the endowment and the funds be invested long term. This fund will continue to grow the Club’s ability to perform “Service Above Self.”
