Message from President-Elect Tom Coyne
Aloha Members of The Rotary Club of Honolulu,

The start of the new Rotary year is quickly approaching and as with all new incoming Presidents I have been working closely with our current and 2025 Club Treasurer Lucci Pinoliad, as well as with current President Joanna Amberger to finalize our budget for 2025. With membership staying steady at 117 members and with inflation increasing the cost of operating the club, we have little choice but to implement an increase for our membership dues.  The chart below shows the current dues rate and the new dues rate effective July 1, 2024.

"The Situation in the Middle East and the US Strategic Interests"

Dr. Jason Olson

Jason is a Navy foreign area officer assigned to the US Pacific Fleet, where he coordinates with partner navies and strengthens interoperability and global stability, including the Pacific Security Maritime Exchange, a multinational coalition that enforces UN Security Council resolutions. He was previously at the Naval War College and received grants to research the Abraham Accords, particularly how they benefit US interests.

Jason holds a doctorate from Brandeis University, is the author of 2 books related to the Middle East and is a professor at BYU-Hawaii. He received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal in 2023.

The Board of Trustees of the Foundation of the Rotary Club of Honolulu nominate the following members to serve a 3-year term as Trustee beginning July 1, 2025.  Voting on the slate of candidates will be held at the beginning of the Tuesday, June 4 noon lunch meeting.  Please join us in person at the Outrigger Canoe Club or via Zoom to cast your vote and show your support.  We need to reach quorum, so even if you can only join for the first 10 minutes of the meetings, we need you there.  Come support your fellow members!

Message from YMCA
Senior Executive Director Mish Hood

"Reese, and the whole Rotary team, you are absolute heroes. I've heard from the team down there that you have done incredible work, and they are excited to get these rooms into service of the housing insecure immediately. This work is so meaningful, to those who will stay there, but also to all those that have known and loved the Central YMCA for decades. It needed this love, and we are so thankful to everyone on this project for leaning in with their time and talent, and no small amount of sweat and hard work. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you."

Getting to Know - Phil Wright
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT BY LINDA COBLE

Whenever I roll up my sleeves for a Rotary project, I see Phil Wright creating stairs, building or taking down walls, laying floors…you name it.  His skills…from carpentry to cardiovascular surgery, to nut farming…have shaped the soul of our worthy Rotarian.
Nominate a Rotarian!

The Rotary Club of Honolulu runs on our member volunteers.  We want to acknowledge all the contributions that our members make...big, small, on the stage, behind the scenes, time, treasure, talent.... it all matters!  Tell us who you think makes a difference in our club and why!  The nominations can be for silly or serious awards.  The sky is the limit!

May Celebrations!
