I heard a number of positive comments about, and I myself very much enjoyed, our speaker Kaialiʻi Kahele at our most recent regular meeting. Thank you to Nalani Blaisdell-Brennan for introducing Chair Kahele and arranging for him to speak to our Club. I also want to thank both Linda Coble and Dawn Marie for their very well received song and inspiration with appropriate Hawai’ian cultural references that Chair Kahele seemed to find very moving. Thank you also to the many of you who registered your intention to claim or forgo a parking space at The Pacific Club including Richard Hunter, Mitch D'olier, Jason Ebe, Kent Reinker, Bob Sigall, Samantha Haas, Mitch Weld, Rob Hale, Reese Liggett, Nancy Pace, Bob Borek, Grace Sheckler and Ian Wetherell. Eventually, I hope that we all can get in the habit of managing our impact on the parking situation, so that when we do have a large crowd, we do not overburden our host venue.
In addition to our regular meeting, I met this week with Bob Sumpf, President of the Foundation of the Rotary Club of Honolulu to discuss the recently concluded Service Above Self campaign (about which he will provide a final report in the next few weeks) and the general relationship between the Club and the Foundation. I also had a productive meeting with our Director of Youth Services Greg Lui-Kwan and Scholarship Committee members Jim Harrow and Michelle Dolan to review our several scholarship programs that your donations to the SAS campaign help to support. Thank you to everyone who supports the work of our Club in so many ways.
This coming Tuesday, our speaker will be Roger Morton, Director of Department of Transportation Services for the City & County of Honolulu. I want to thank Erik Soderholm for organizing Roger’s visit to our Club. Note that the following week (April 14) we will NOT be meeting at The Pacific Club. Instead, a group of us will be enjoying food, fellowship and athletic entertainment on Friday, April 17, at the Stan Sheriff Center with the University of Hawaii Men’s Volleyball team. We still have a few spots available, but we need to give them our final head count by next Friday (April 10), so if you plan to join us, please sign up soon or let Lee know that you are interested. As always, I look forward to seeing many of you there.
