President Joanna Amberger's Message

Everyone is in favor of free speech. Hardly a day passes without its being extolled, but some people's idea of it is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone else says anything back, that is an outrage.

~ Winston Churchill

As to the presidency, the two happiest days of my life were those of my entrance upon the office and my surrender of it.
~Martin Van Buren

Dr. David Lassner was our speaker this week and inspired these quotes for me as I prepared for his discussion on Challenges of a University President: Free Speech and Other Issues.  I was amazed to learn that he is among the short list of alumni of long serving presidents of the University of Hawaii system!

Our meetings have been buzzing with energy!  I hope you will join us at an upcoming event.
IMPORTANT UPDATES TO LUNCH REGISTRATION
We are working to make registering and attending lunch meetings easier on our members.  To that end we are introducing some new changes to registration:
  • Register and pay online - starting with our February 27 lunch meeting, anyone registering for an event will be asked to pay with a credit card at the time of registration.  This will make it easier to register by reducing the number of times you have to click.  It will also reduce you wasting time standing in line waiting to pay.  If you register online, just pick up your name tag, grab lunch and fellowship with other Rotarians and guests!  Registration closes 24 hours before the event.
  • Walk-ins welcome for a fee - we welcome walk-ins and know some of you don't know if you can make it until the last minute.  Please join us!  But, that flexibility, convenience and privilege are not free.  We will be charging $50 at the door for members and guests who do not pre-register.  This will take effect starting at the March 5 lunch meeting.
  • Sign up for prepaid lunches - we know some of our members are tired of having to register and pay for individual lunches.  We hear you!  So we are offering a prepaid lunch option on a trial basis.  You can sign up for $130 a month or $500 for the rest of the Rotary year.  This option gives you even more freedom to attend the lunch meetings without having to hassle with online registration!  Click here to let Lee know you are interested and for full details.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we try new things to make the Club better for everyone!

Getting to Know Rick Tabor
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT BY LINDA COBLE

Linda Coble’s recent ride out to the Bobby Benson Center Open House with fellow BBC Board Member and Chair, Rick Tabor, resulted in her next Tradewind interview.  Rick, who was introduced to Rotary in 2017 by member Bub Wo, says after one meeting, he was hooked.
