Last week, a group of us had an excellent time attending our Pau Hana at the University of Hawaii Men’s Volleyball game against California State University at Northridge (CSUN). I have heard nothing but positive comments (although some small suggestions for improvement), and I suspect that we may try to organize another similar event during the upcoming year – assuming that our President Elect Carolann Biederman chooses to add it to her program schedule for the year. Among those enjoying the UH team win were Nalani Blaisdell-Brennan, Dennis and Judy Lind, Leslie Allen, Tom Coyne, Michael Marsh and Clif Purikiser, along with several others. In total, we had 30 people sign up for the event, which was a great turnout.
We also had another very well-received speaker at our most recent regular meeting at The Pacific Club. Again, I heard several positive comments about the presentation by and discussion with Doug Harper, the Executive Director of Mālama Maunalua. Thanks to Mitch D'Olier for inviting Doug to share with us the great work that his organization is doing in my own (and many others’) neighborhood to protect our precious resources.
I also had the pleasure this week of attending the most recent meeting of the Trustees of the Foundation of the Rotary Club of Honolulu, where I shared many of the great things that our Club is doing these days. Soon we will be getting a complete report on the success of our recent Service Above Self campaign and the implications for our service project budgets next year. Thanks to Bob Sumpf, Gwen Yamamoto-Lau, Rich Proctor, Nancy Grekin, Carol Sakata, Rick Tabor and the rest of the Foundation Trustees for their management of our service funds.
Looking forward, we have another great project coming up on Saturday together with a number of other Clubs at Hamakua Marsh in Kailua, which will be part of a District-wide Rotarians at Work day. Then on Tuesday, we will be hosting the Governor of Hawaii, Josh Green, for what I’m sure will be a lively and interesting Talk-Story session. I hope that everyone is sufficiently respectful in their questions that it does not become too “lively” or “interesting”, however. Also, as has been mentioned many times, especially given that we are at full capacity for this event, it is important that we all make an effort to minimize the impact on parking at The Pacific Club. So, please do take a look at the carpooling support map that I sent out to all members earlier, and also consider walking from your downtown office or have someone drop you off at the event. However you choose to make your way, I look forward to seeing many of you there.
Event is full. Contact the RCOH Admin to be added to the wait list.
