Our 2023-2024 Rotary year is coming to a close. Rotary runs on the Service and Relationship; each of us contributing in our own way. We have several exciting opportunities to get involved and make a difference coming, with details below.

This Member may be someone who brought joy, a lesson, or laughter to you personally, or someone you saw work hard in service, lighten another's burden, was outgoing, hardworking, bubbly, impactful ... so many ways to acknowledge another! Let's make sure these members know we see them!
Incoming President Tom Coyne has been working closely with our current and 2025 Club Treasurer Lucci Pinoliad, as well as with current President Joanna Amberger to finalize our budget for 2025. With membership staying steady at 117 members and with inflation increasing the cost of operating the club, we have little choice but to implement an increase for our membership dues. The chart shows the current dues rate and the new dues rate effective July 1, 2024.
If you are an incoming club board member, youʻll want to put aside an hour this Saturday morning to attend a special training for new board members. The one-hour training session will cover roles and responsibilities, purpose and vision, management, leadership and accountability for the club action plan. This training will help turbo-charge your club board to be ready to take the helm when the new Rotary year starts July 1.
Our incoming Board Director of Service Programs, Nancy Youngren has called us to help support "Monitors for Maui"!

Do you, or your family, friends, or co-workers, have any gently used computer monitors that need a good home? Please consider donating them to Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies for their project providing computers to students on Maui affected by the wildfires. Any kind, any size will be appreciated.
Please contact Nancy and she will coordinate a pickup from you. Thank you for your kokua in helping to make a difference for the children on Maui.

The Rotary Club of Honolulu runs on our member volunteers. We want to acknowledge all the contributions that our members make...big, small, on the stage, behind the scenes, time, treasure, talent.... it all matters! Tell us who you think makes a difference in our club and why! The nominations can be for silly or serious awards. The sky is the limit!
Principal Conductor & Artistic Director of the Xi'an Symphony Orchestra
Chinese-Australian conductor Dane Lam is Music Director of the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra (assuming the post of Music Director in July 2023) and Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Xi’an Symphony Orchestra.
Born in Brisbane, Australia to an Australian mother and a Singaporean-Chinese father, Dane played piano, clarinet, and saxophone as a child, and studied conducting under Gwyn Roberts at the University of Queensland.
He was the first conductor in the history of Opera Queensland to be honoured with an official position when he was appointed their Associate Music Director and Resident Conductor in December 2020.

Dr. Jason Olson was introduced by Club Member Judy Lind who joked about how she was going to introduce him had he dressed in his military uniform. We all had a good-humored snicker.
While the topic was sensitive to many, Dr. Olson did a wonderful job sharing his personal and emotion experiences about his late Professor who died working to bring both sides to peace.
