Once again we had an energized, well attended regular meeting at the Pacific Club this week. I had a number of people tell me that they enjoyed the presentation by Retired US Brigadier General Moses Kaoiwi, Jr., although there was some disappointment that we had only enough time to establish the Hawaiian history leading up to the Battle of Nuuanu without going into the details of the final battle itself. Perhaps we will have the General back at some point in the future to finish the story of the unification of the Hawaiian kingdom. Thanks to Erik Soderholm for inviting such an interesting speaker.
Before and after our meeting, I had a chance to talk with Judy Lind and Bub Wo about the Paul Harris events they will be hosting the week after next (week of September 9). Bub will be organizing a tour of The Pantry by Feeding Hawaii Together, which is Hawaii’s only e-commerce food pantry, operating year-round to provide free, nutritious food to local families. Judy will be inviting us to visit and tour the Kukui Center, which hosts a number of collocated social service providers supporting homeless families with children and has been the site of recent RCOH community service projects. Finally, Sage Price will be hosting a tour of his fruit tree farm / business in Mililani for our third event. I plan to attend all of the Paul Harris activities, and I hope to see many of you there as well.
Remember that we have our second weekend of activity tomorrow (Saturday, September 30) at the Susannah Wesley Community Center (SWCC). We made great progress the first weekend, so we should be able to finish up the remaining work, possibly before lunch. Also, note that we do not have a regular meeting this coming week (NO MEETING September 2) due to the Labor Day holiday. However, if you haven’t already, please be sure to sign up for our September 16 lunch meeting at which our speaker will be Wendy Hensel, President of the University of Hawaii. Enjoy your weekend and the rest of the week, no matter how you choose to spend the time off.
Oliver is one of our Don Anderson Youth Leadership Fellow and has been assisting with many projects, weekly volunteer duties, and recruited 8 extra volunteers for Saturday, Aug. 16th, this month to help with our Susannah Wesley Community Center projects!

Susannah Wesley Community Center
Scope of Project: Brighten up--Refresh this important facility
The Rotary Club of Honolulu has taken on a new community service project by helping the Susanah Wesley Community Center to upgrade their facilities. For those of you who are not familiar with this facility, SWCC offers after school care for children in the community as well adult day care and many other vital needed services. It has been a few decades since RCOH has helped here and with limited and diminished funding for these needed services it is time for us to do want we do best and help get this building repaired and cleaned up.
Saturday, Aug. 16th a great deal of cleaning, scraping, and power washing was completed! Painting has begun! Join us Aug. 30th!
Saturday, August 30th at 8:00:
Bring your painting attired and a water bottle, wear a hat and gloves. Mostly painting and hopefully, if we enough people, completed the first stage in our project.

ATTENTION ROTARY CLUB OF HONOLULU!
We have been invited to attend the 77th Charter Anniversary of Rotary Club of Taipei!

Master Sen of the Kyoto Club passed away. He was very supportive of our club and gave a generous contribution to our Centennial Park.
He was the world master of the tea ceremony which he performed for our club numerous times during his visits both here and in Kyoto.
Our hearts go out to our Kyoto Sister Club, Master Sen's family and loved ones. We have been honored to have time with him.
Dr. Genshitsu Sen, a former WWII kamikaze pilot trainee who turned to the Way of Tea, practicing harmony, respect, purity and more, died last week at age 102.
