A MESSAGE FROM
PRESIDENT BRIAN DUNKEL

Aloha kakou,

We had three very successful Paul Harris events this week.  Monday a group of us were at Sweet Trees Hawaii with Sage Price.  Tuesday, we joined Bub Wo at The Pantry, and Thursday Judy Lind sponsored a tour of the Kukui Center.  I want to thank everyone who hosted and attended these events.  Just to name a few – Bridget Townsend, Rick Towell and Kent Reinker attended Monday.  On Tuesday, although Sid Snyder was not able to join us himself, his daughters Joslin Crowe and Malia Snyder did join us, along with Al Linton, Alika Mau and Jim Harrow.  Finally on Thursday, among others, Grace Sheckler, Jack Kunkel and Jim Simonds were treated to a tour of the Center’s many service providers.

One of the ways in which our Club will continue to thrive and to grow is for all of us to engage in recruitment of new members.  Thanks to the efforts of Nina Thai, herself a relatively recent addition to our club, we will likely have a new member before the end of September.  Bub, Lee LaBrash and I have all had a chance to engage with Wesley Yamamoto, who is a Senior Vice President of Investments at The Kikawa Group of Raymond James, and I look forward to his joining our ‘ohana.  Everyone in the club is encouraged to take the same kind of initiative as Nina, Bridget and the several others of us who have invited new prospective members to visit during lunch, service projects or other opportunities for fellowship with current Club members.  This is among the best types of marketing that we can have, and it helps us grow and be even more relevant in our community.

Our next regular lunch meeting at the Pacific Club will be this coming Tuesday.  Our speaker will be Wendy Hensel, President of the University of Hawaii system, and she will speak to us about the challenges facing higher education in the current environment.  We will have at least a couple of members of the Rotary Club of Ala Moana joining us, so please take time to thank them for joining us.  We currently have more than 40 people registered for this event, so we should have some lively fellowship and lots of questions.  I look forward to seeing everyone there.  Also, this Saturday, Rick Tabor and Nancy Youngren will be supporting awareness for Suicide Prevention by participating in the Out of Darkness walk at the Frank Fasi Civic Center Park.  Even if you cannot join the Walk, you can still donate to the team HERE.
