Sobering news comes from Kauaʻi, Lānaʻi, Leeward O‘ahu and other storm ravaged parts of the state. Our hearts go out to the people and communities who are impacted. Rotary District 5000 is working with first responder agencies like the Red Cross to identify community needs and create a Rotary Club network that can take unified action and support longer-term recovery efforts.
This week’s storm also kept us guessing until the last minute about the viability of our three planned Paul Harris events. Though the O‘ahu Cemetery tour and the Mediation Center of the Pacific were postponed, the List Sotheby’s International Realty meeting on Wednesday was full of fellowship, real estate facts and fun. Today we commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and remember, each in our own way. Our club has a distinct connection because our Foundation’s endowment fund is named in honor of Maile Hale, daughter of past President and Centennial Park Committee Chair Rob Hale. Maile perished in the 9/11 attack at the World Trade Center. Though she was deprived of a bright future, the fund in her name represents hope and the future of our club. With your continued support during the annual Service Above Self campaign, the fund will grow and expand our ability to Create Lasting Impact.
We’re back at the Pacific Club next Tuesday, September 15 with guest speaker, Jon Gelman, President and Founder of Hawaiʻi Marine Animal Response, the largest Hawaiʻi-based nonprofit marine animal and ocean conservation organization.

Jon will discuss the role Hawaiʻi businesses can play in important conservation efforts to save some of our most precious, iconic, and vulnerable marine animals. HMAR is the largest Hawaiʻi-based marine conservation, response, rescue and stranding support nonprofit.

The Rotary Young Professional Exchange Program provides young professionals with a wonderful opportunity to experience another country’s culture, community, and vocation while building lifelong Rotary connections.
Last July, three young professionals from Hawai'i traveled to Thailand for 20 days as part of this exchange program.
In October, four young professionals from Thailand will be visiting Hawai'i.
We are looking for Rotarians who live in downtown Honolulu, Kaka'ako, or Hawai'i Kai who would be willing to open their homes and host one or more of these young professionals during their stay from October 11-17, 2026.
This is a wonderful opportunity to share our Hawaiian hospitality, culture, and way of life while getting to know these young professionals from Thailand.
