PRESIDENT CAROLANN BIEDERMAN
Aloha mai kākou,
Last Tuesday’s meeting was all about our members. From greeter Lynne Waters’ bright smile to Michael Marsh’s friendly assistance at the registration desk, Rotarians were making a difference. Everyone’s positive energy, engaging conversations and personal stories brought new meaning and insights to our Club initiatives and what’s going on behind the scenes to make a lasting impact. Linda Coble offered a tribute to the late Dolly Parton, and Tom Coyne reflected about his 50 years in Hawai‘i, the road he traveled to get here, and what the future may bring to the youngest members of his family and ours. Adam Bogucki presented his hometown Rotary Club’s banner and set us straight about corn growing the Midwest.
We welcomed Chuck Monteith, from the Rotary Club of Memorial-Spring Branch in Houston, who is spending a month here with his grandchildren, and prospective members Shirley Kan, a guest of Rick Tabor, and “JR” Darnell, a guest of Reese Liggett. After the meeting, Shirley expressed how much she enjoyed learning about our unique Club programs and members.
Bob Sumpf, Club Foundation President, honored Club members who recently became first-time Paul Harris Fellows: Chris Cloward, Nancy Grekin, Clif Purkiser and Nancy Youngren, and those who have achieved new fellowship levels through direct donations to The Rotary Foundation, and during our annual Service Above Self campaign. Brian Dunkel and Tom Coyne presented the purpose, structure, and updated forms for the Don Anderson Youth Leadership Fellows Program. Membership Director Bridget Townsend introduced the new Corporate Membership program and encouraged all Rotarians to actively invite guests and prospective members to meetings and service projects.
There’s a new Paul Harris pau hana option on Friday, 9/11 at the Mediation Center of the Pacific, with volunteer mediator Leslie Allen, and Executive Director Tracey Wiltgen, our former Club member. Spaced are available for Wednesday, 9/9 at List Sotheby’s International, and for Tuesday, 9/8 at O‘ahu Cemetery.
