Our regular meeting at The Pacific Club was well attended and our speaker, District 5000 Governor Nancy Cabral, was great. She spoke directly to the particular concerns and accomplishments of our Club while connecting it all back to the District and her own personal experience with Rotary. I want to thank both Julia Allen and Cherokee Rice for their dedication and steady support for our regular meetings. We can always count on both of them. I was also very glad to see a number of folks at the meeting who are not always able to attend regularly, including Ananda Ferreira, Bridget Townsend, Amanda Ellis, Jim Simonds, Sally Mist, and Leslie Allen. I also want to extend a special thanks to Christian Stockwell for taking care of our special guests, Soren and Marianne Bartlmä, parents of our own Oliver Bartlmä who is currently in the hospital recovering from a serious hiking accident involving a fallen tree.
We also had a very successful project painting railings at Palama Settlement this last Saturday, which we will be finishing up tomorrow (November 22). I want to shout out three members of our Service Above Self Youth Service Fellowship program, Jack Kunkel, Riley Lau, and Christian for stepping up to help manage the many HPU students and others that Oliver had organized to join us before his accident. I also want to thank Phil Wright for his continued and steady support for so many of our RAT Pack projects.
I am also pleased to announce that at our most recent Board meeting, Tom Coyne agreed to be our Membership Committee chair, and he shared his vision for how we can grow our Club to meet the ambitious goal for membership that Nancy Cabral mentioned at our regular meeting. And speaking of regular meetings, I’m also happy to announce that we have reserved The Card Room for our regular lunch meetings at The Pacific Club through the end of calendar year 2027. So, everyone will be able to count on a steady weekly dose of Chef Eric’s awesome fare and the wonderful fellowship and speakers that come with it.
Remember that next week is Thanksgiving, so we will not have a regular lunch meeting. I hope everyone is able to enjoy quality time with family and friends to celebrate the holiday. I and Lee will both be traveling off-island for exactly that, but everyone should enjoy your time no matter where you find yourself. The following week (December 2), we will be back at The Pacific Club to hear from Rocky Mould of the Hawaii Solar Energy Association (HSEA) and of course much more wonderful time spent celebrating the holiday season with your Rotary ‘Ohana.

PAINTING AT PALAMA Day 2

The Rotary Club of Honolulu has done a lot of Rat Pack work at Palama Settlement throughout the years, so this project is a continuation of what we have been doing for them.
The scope of this project is to paint all, or most, of the metal railings that surround the buildings.
Join Shaka Santa (aka Rick Tabor) and Tutu Mele (aka Linda Coble) to bring holiday joy to hundreds of kids!
Assistance includes help with parking and managing snack stations, which include shaved ice, hot dogs, and popcorn. The volunteer call time will be at 3:00 PM, and volunteers are asked to stay until 9:00 PM to help with cleanup.
To ensure Palama will have enough volunteer shirts and bentos, they kindly ask that all volunteers sign up by December 5th. Please complete the volunteer form andemail it by the deadline. Once Palama has the final list, they will give specific assignments and any additional details.
