Mahalo to Past President Rich Proctor for stepping in to preside over the Tuesday, May 14 lunch meeting at the Outrigger in my absence! As I mentioned in my letter to members this week, I will likely be absent from lunch meetings for the next few meetings.
The final meeting of the Rotary year will be June 25. We will be presenting awards recognizing Rotarians from your nominations. You still have time to nominate a Rotarian! We want to acknowledge all the contributions that our members make...big, small, on the stage, behind the scenes, time, treasure, talent.... it all matters! Tell us who you think makes a difference in our club and why! The nominations can be for silly or serious awards. The sky is the limit! You can submit your nominations here. We will also be installing your new Board of Directors with our special guest District Governor Elect Ted Faigle. I will be wearing my most fabulous fascinator of the year and invite you to join me with your own haute hat!

The Board of Trustees of the Foundation of the Rotary Club of Honolulu nominate the following members to serve a 3-year term as Trustee beginning July 1, 2025. Voting on the slate of candidates will be held at the beginning of the Tuesday, May 28 noon lunch meeting. Please join us in person at the Outrigger Canoe Club or via Zoom to cast your vote and show your support. We need to reach quorum, so even if you can only join for the first 10 minutes of the meetings, we need you there. Come support your fellow members!

Dr. Neil Milner is an Emeritus Professor of Political Science at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he taught for over forty years. Earlier, he also taught at Northwestern University and Grinnell College.
He is a political analyst for KITV (you may have seen him being interviewed on election days), a columnist for the newspaper Civil Beat, and a contributing editor on Hawaii Public Radio's "The Conversation." He is also an actor, storyteller, occasional playwright, and a book author. His most recent book THE GIFT OF UNDERPANTS has nothing to do with politics.
This project begins May 6th and runs through May 25th on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Come in the morning or join in the afternoon or BOTH!

YMCA of Honolulu NEEDS YOU! The help request is to refurbish residential facilities at the Atkinson Central facility. YMCA of Honolulu provides housing at low-to-no cost and low-barrier to those who are housing insecure, or in need of transitional housing - many are houseless-but-working folks. ATKINSON'S affordable housing fills a critical need for this population.
YOUR help will bring more residential units online so those on a daily waitlist can gain access to the services and get off the street!

"This week our Peacemakers committee showed 4 outstanding student videos that were created for the 'Olelo Youth Xchange program. For the last 17 years our club has sponsored the "Creating Peace" category, and this year we received 80 entries in 3 divisions. The topics ranged from bullying, which seems to be the most popular, to voting for peace, and to finding peace within music. The winner in the high school division this year was from Kauai High School, and their video, "Treat Yourself Like Someone You Love", was also shown at the annual District 5000 conference on Kauai last Saturday. It was announced then that their video had also achieved a Pele award. Congratulations to all! It was an inspiring program presented by Lyla Berg and the Peacemakers committee. We look forward to doing it again next year."
