I’m hoping everyone had a chance to play Irish this week by celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on Sunday and in addition, officially embrace that it is now Spring with love and fellowship in the air.
I had the pleasure to join the Pau Hana event on Tuesday, March 19th at the Lei Stand on Bethel Street. We had a lively group that included several new members. This is a great way to get to know people and I got to hear their stories about travel and families and new relationships.
Dawn Marie and Reese Liggett gave a small presentation on the recently completed RYSE project with over 600 Rotarian hours involved. This is a project that we can all be very proud of.
Our thoughts are with our fellow Rotarians in Palawan PI and looking forward to hearing about all they’re stories and adventures when they return.
The Lei Stand really is a hidden gem! Those of us who attended enjoyed the atmosphere. Only downside, besides a little noise from the bar area, was the YOU were not there!
Did that get your attention? Rotarians, YMCA, among family and friends have ventured to Palawan PI where they are making a difference! They are building schools and making memories!
Twinkle Borge is the leader of Pu’uhonua O Wai’anae (POW), a village of 250 people living unhoused on state land adjacent to the Waianae Boat Harbor. POW residents serve Waianae in various ways: conducting regular cleanups all across the Waianae Coast, feeding and clothing residents of other houseless encampments, and distributing back-to-school supplies each year to both houseless and housed families. In 2018, Borge and others led an effort to defend the village from eviction. In 2020, Borge and the village completed the purchase of 20 acres in Waianae Valley for their permanent home, and they are now working on construction. Borge is also on the Steering Committee of Hui Aloha.
I recognized new club member, Harry Chiu, when we were working at the RYSE project. We didn’t have time to chat, so I called him for my RCOH Tradewind member interview, so that we could all get to know Harry.
The Rotary Club of Honolulu runs on our member volunteers. We want to acknowledge all the contributions that our members make...big, small, on the stage, behind the scenes, time, treasure, talent.... it all matters! Tell us who you think makes a difference in our club and why! The nominations can be for silly or serious awards. The sky is the limit!

IMPORTANT UPDATES TO LUNCH REGISTRATION
We are working to make registering and attending lunch meetings easier on our members. To that end we are introducing some new changes to registration:
Register and pay online - starting with our February 27 lunch meeting, anyone registering for an event will be asked to pay with a credit card at the time of registration. This will make it easier to register by reducing the number of times you have to click. It will also reduce you wasting time standing in line waiting to pay. If you register online, just pick up your name tag, grab lunch and fellowship with other Rotarians and guests! Registration closes 24 hours before the event.
Walk-ins welcome for a fee - we welcome walk-ins and know some of you don't know if you can make it until the last minute. Please join us! But, that flexibility, convenience and privilege are not free. We will be charging $50 at the door for members and guests who do not pre-register. This will take effect starting at the March 5 lunch meeting.
Sign up for prepaid lunches - we know some of our members are tired of having to register and pay for individual lunches. We hear you! So we are offering a prepaid lunch option on a trial basis. You can sign up for $130 a month or $500 for the rest of the Rotary year. This option gives you even more freedom to attend the lunch meetings without having to hassle with online registration!
