Last Tuesday our regular meeting had a very long list of visitors and guests, both of the two-legged and four-legged variety, thanks to our speakers from Hawaii FiDo Service Dogs. Katelyn and Brian and the rest of their crew gave a wonderful presentation showcasing the work that they do to train and provide service dogs to children and adults with mobility disabilities in Hawaii. In addition to the crew from Hawaii FiDo, we had a number of Club members in the room and on Zoom, including Liz Howard, Nik Jirikowic, Alika Mau, Shannon Melton and Rick Tabor. With us in three dimensions, I was pleased to see Bob Borek, Judy Lind, Clif Purkiser, Phil Wright, Nancy Pace, Jason Ebe, Nancy White, Kent Reinker, the ever-helpful crew of Lee LaBrash, Julia Allen, Cherokee Rice, Bob Sigall, Michael Marsh and, of course, our newest Club member Troy Person. We will be having several more inductions over the next few weeks, so be sure to come and help us welcome those new members of our Club.
Recently it was pointed out to me that in highlighting folks in my Tradewind message who I have not seen at a meeting for a while, I might make them feel like I’m calling them out for missing meetings… Nothing could be further from the truth! I am merely expressing my pleasure at seeing friends with whom I have not had the chance to visit in a while. I understand that so many of us lead busy lives, and I am therefore excited when you are able to join us at our regular meetings, service projects and social events. We miss you when you are away, but we are always happy to have you join us when you can.
This weekend, our President Elect Carolann Biederman and several others from our Club (and District) will be in Los Angeles for the Southwest Zone Presidents-Elect Learning Seminars (PELS) gathering. I am sure that all of you join me in wishing her and the entire group an amazing Rotary learning experience. There will be lots to absorb in a short time!
Next week we will once again be back at The Pacific Club for what I’m sure will be an amazing lunch. Our speaker will be Anton Krucky of the City & County of Honolulu, and his topic will be “Beds of Many Flavors”, which is how he describes the ways in which the local government can provide various types of housing to meet the specific needs of Honolulu’s different classes of homeless people. I look forward to seeing many of you there.
We are inducting Kerri Van Duyne who is returning to RCOH! Our newest member Troy Person will be happy to greet you!
Register ASAP to join us!

Community Service Projects
The John Warren Fund, founded in 1977, is an unrestricted fund designed to fund community service projects and programs and plays a sustaining role in the Club’s ongoing service to the local community. Our Club’s “RAT (Rotary Action Team) Pack” supports community organizations with projects at YMCA Camp Erdman, Palama Settlement, the Susannah Wesley Community Center, Kukui Center, and our three-year signature project, RYSE (Residential Youth Services & Empowerment).
The Foundation of the Rotary Club of Honolulu asks for your financial support just once a year.
Fill backpacks with school supplies, Part 1! Our club will once again fill backpacks with school supplies to distribute to the vulnerable and disadvantaged children who are clients of the 6 non-profit agencies at the Kukui Center. We will have the first opportunity to fill packs on Wednesday, February 25, at 1:00 at the Kukui Center. There will be one or two more opportunities this spring.
If you plan to participate on February 25, please contact Nancy Youngren so we have a count of people to give to the Center.

Warm greetings from Taipei!
As many of our international sister club members will be visiting Taiwan for the Rotary
International Convention 2026, the Rotary Club of Taipei is in the early stages of planning a
Welcome Dinner to celebrate our long-standing friendship and fellowship. We are also
planning to invite all the Rotary International dignitaries, including all the PRIPs, to this event,
so this gathering will also represent a rare opportunity to meet and interact with the Rotary
International VIPs.
The dinner is planned for: Friday, June 12, 2026 (evening) Location: Sheraton Hotel Taipei Grand Ball Room
At this preliminary stage, we would be most grateful if you could kindly let us know whether
your club may be interested in attending, and, if possible, provide a rough estimate of the
number of members who might participate.
This information will greatly assist us in our initial planning and venue arrangements.
Please note that this is only a preliminary inquiry, and a formal invitation with full details will
follow at a later date.
We truly hope to have the opportunity to spend a meaningful evening together in fellowship
during this special Rotary occasion, and we very much look forward to welcoming our sister
clubs to Taipei.
With warm Rotary friendship,
Andrew Wong
