Sep. 13, 2022 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Retired Army Gen. David Bramlett, a past president of the Rotary Club of Wahiawa, will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club’s Sept. 13 meeting, sharing some history on the 100th Battalion and 442nd Regimental Combat Team. His talk will be followed by a “call to action” by 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans Club vice president Harry Nakayama, who is a Rotarian. In recent years, descendants of the four World War II Nisei units — the 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, Military Intelligence Service and the 1399th Engineer Construction Battalion — along with the Nisei Veterans Legacy (NVL), have been paying tribute to those who were killed in action as well as to the veterans who survived the war and have since passed on. In preparation for the September 25th memorial service, 100th Infantry Battalion club members and other volunteers are needed to help decorate the graves of 100th Battalion soldiers interred at Punchbowl Saturday, Sept. 24. At Punchbowl: The decorating at Punchbowl will begin at 8:15AM on Saturday, September 24th. Look for the pop-up tent to the right of the steps, where there will be tables and buckets filled with flowers. Organizers will assign you to a section of the cemetery, give you a map and instructions and a bucket of flowers. Volunteers are advised to bring sunscreen, a hat, a container, or bucket for water to fill vases. We need volunteers! Sign up by contacting Rick Tabor at rtabor12@twc.com. ************************************* Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/4417548335?pwd=eWFoNkVqaFBCSVF2S1YyTklONHJ3dz09 Meeting ID: 441 754 8335 Dial by your location |

Punchbowl was once used as a lookout for Hawaiian warriors. Now, it’s one of only two national memorial cemeteries in the USA — the other is Arlington, Virginia. It is the final resting place for those that have courageously served in the U.S. Armed Forces. For the 16th year, the 100th Infantry Battalion Club 100 members invite the public to help decorate 1,000 heroes’ graves with flowers Saturday, Sept. 24, from 8:00am to 1:00pm. Then on Sunday, Sept. 25, from 9:30 to 10:30 am, the public is invited to a joint memorial service in honor of our Nisei soldiers of World War II, including the 100th Infantry Battalion (Purple Heart Battalion), the 442nd (Go For Broke Battalion), Regimental Combat Team, the Military Intelligence Service (MIS) and the 1399 Engineer and Construction Battalion. The memorial service, which previously was organized by the O‘ahu AJA Veterans Council, is held annually on the Sunday closest to Sept. 29 — the day in 1943 that Sgt. Shigeo “Joe” Takata of the 100th Infantry Battalion became the first Japanese American soldier killed in action in World War II. Sgt. Shigeo “Joe” Takata was hit by shrapnel and fought death long enough to point out the location of the enemy. Sgt. Takata rests in eternal peace at Punchbowl. |
